Steam Summer Sale The Steam Summer Sale ended this past weekend.  Lets have a moment of silence in remembrance of sales past. When the dust had settled I had picked up three games for $26-ish: GTA IV, Civilization V GOTY, and Darksiders.  I had played through Episodes from Liberty City but not GTA IV since it seemed like Steam always wanted to bundle them together in the past.  Civ V has been on my radar for a while, and it finally hit a price point that made me jump on it.  Darksiders, on the other hand, was a game I had never looked into previously - a friend recommended it to me and I ended up snagging it for 5 bucks.  As I plow through my gigantic backlog of Steam games Ill be posting my thoughts - stay tuned. Steam Holiday Sale Damage Report It�s a little late, but here�s a damage report for the recent Steam Holiday Sale -   First up is Valkyria Chronicles, which I�ve already covered. I wasn�t too sure about it seeing as the discount wasn�t that great, and even after watching some videos, I had no clue if I�d enjoy it. But I decided to take a chance and I�m glad I did. I was in a similar position with Ground Zeroes. It�s a new release, so not a big discount either, and GAMING CONFESSION: I�m never played a Metal Gear title before, so I wasn�t sure if I�d like it. But I do like the look of the upcoming Phantom Pain, so I figured Zeroes, which seems to serve as a sort of prologue chapter, would be a relatively cheap way to try it out and see if I might like it. Next up � Metal Gear Rising. Because I figured � why not? From no Metal Gear titles to two might seem like a risk, but both games are very different. Steam Winter Sale Damage Report A small selection, but plenty to get stuck into. No Man�s Sky is a title I�ve been following for some time, but sensibly decided to wait for a discount. Is it truly the worst game ever? Spoiler: It�s not! I�ve actually already played it and have a review drafted. It�s the longest review I�ve written for some time. I won�t spoil what score I gave it though. Despite Dishonored being one of my favourite games of the last few years, I can�t say I was too excited about its sequel. It just didn�t feel like a game that really needed a sequel. Like Dragon Age: Origins. I didn�t really think that needed a sequel either and look how that turned out. But hey, I can�t not at least give Dishonored 2 a shot. Hopefully some of the patches have fixed its many reported release issues. Back in 2007, I started this blog with the intention of talking about writing and games in a 50-50 ratio, it didnt really pan out that way� After trying my hand at it a few times, I realized that my own writing process was mostly internal, and discussing it publicly came off like I was trying to appear smarter than I am. Steam Summer Sale Damage Report Steam sales just aren�t as much fun as they used to be. There�s no more daily deals. No more flash sales. There�s no reason to check back every 8 or so hours to see what�s new. Every discount you see on day 1 is what you�re going to get for the entire duration of the sale. So although the sale is still ongoing, I�ve already made my purchases. There�s no more surprises to come. My first buy was Doom . Although I thought the multiplayer beta was terrible, everything I�ve seen and heard about the single player campaign has been extremely positive. My second purchase was the Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3. I was planning to get this on release, but it arrived just a few days after Total War: Warhammer, so I really didn�t have time for it. My next buy was Rise of the Tomb Raide r, which I hope builds upon the very solid, if somewhat forgettable 2013 reboot. Hopefully there�s more emphasis on exploration, adventure, survival and actual tomb raidin...
