for java programming you need to things one is JDK (java development kit) using this we can develop java programs and one is JRE(java runtime environment)which needs to run java program so we need both

1.Netbeans (sunmicrosystems acuqired by oracle so it is from craetor of java)
having both jdk and jre

steps to install java in linux through PPA

First, add Oracles PPA, then update your package repository.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
after installing paste this lines in text editor and save with hello.java 
class MyClass

 public static void main(String[] args)
 {
 System.out.println("Hello World");
 }
}
 
 
  open terminal and then type 
javac hello.java
press enter then type java hello
