Sonic the Hedgehogs Gameworld was a SEGA game that was released in 1996. It is probably one of the first official games to feature actual voice-over as you know the characters from the Sonic series did not speak in the original games. I think Sonic CD started off with a little voice-over for the characters. The main characters are Amy Rose, Sonic and Tails.  The game was obviously aimed at a younger audience thus it being released on the Sega Pico. Which is quite fun to say the least. Japanese games are always fun, even if they are somewhat babyish. The only reason I am giving this game a go is because it gives Amy a more leading role.

The game has two releases the official Japanese and the English version. The character voices have also been dubbed into English. But the actors and actresses are uncredited so you cant really link the characters to anyone.

The game will then ask you who you wish to play as. Amy of course, Sonic and Tails in the earlier games get way too much attention.

You can talk to the characters on each scene. Amy is quite...annoying. Her voice...really annoys me. It seems she was annoying...ever since her debut. I bet the Japanese version would have gave off a more cute factor. Tails...voice is way cute than Amys. Sonic sounds somewhat like his usual self as portrayed and Dr Eggman sounds similar to the animated series version, only not as stupid.

Talking to the characters they will give away a few secrets. Tails tells me he can fly...err...I already knew that.

Amy will tell me that she loves the gameworld. Okay that does it, enough with the whole talking to the characters. But then again they are talking to a younger audience so of course theyd have to lower to their IQ to their level.

There are also a ton of mini-games. The best was the crane game. Snagging Sonic plush toys was the best.

Most of the time you have to duel Eggman only this time his games are quite lame.

You can also...talk to Eggman. He just wants to beat you and thats all he really cares about.

There is also a little RPG-like Sonic game where you can duel Eggman. Its called Sonic Vs Dr Robotnik.

Winning this game is all about luck. You use the start and stop button. If it lands on Sonic he will attack Eggman. If it lands on Eggman he will attack Sonic.  If it lands on a ring Sonic will be healed. Its all luck, and is the ultimate waiting game.

There is also a Whack-A-Eggman mini-game where you use a hammer to smash Robotniks head in.

There is also a throwing game where you must throw balls into the hole. You only get to see the character you selected and Eggman. Two other characters also duel, but you dont get to see them, only on the goal meter above.

There is also a monkey tree climbing race. Featuring that robot, you know the one from was it Sonic 1 or 2? I cant remember but I totally owned all other characters in that mini-game.

There is also a car racing...mini-game. Will SEGA ever learn? Keep Sonic out of those cars!!! He can run for god sake.

The final stage is all about obtaining the Chaos Emeralds. Amy tells us that we are fast? Okay...and Tails laughs...and I cant understand Sonic??? WTFis he saying? That was some bad audio recording right there. Anyway click Eggman to start the duel.

Now you get to control your actual character, how amazing is that? So Amy was a playable character earlier on in the series. Its a shame she wasnt playable in Sonic CD but then again female characters back in the day were all damsels in distress. They could never really do anything. I think Chun-Li was the only female character in the early 90s to be a strong female figure in the gaming world. All other female characters, were useless. It was like women couldnt do anything and couldnt defend themselves. The main challenge for this is to collect all the Chaos Emeralds before Eggy.

After winning Eggman will get upset and the game will end. The credits will then roll. And that is the game done and dusted.

You can always return to do a little art. Its quite hard...I have no idea how to color the actual image there is a pen and brush but they make quite a mess. You can also mess around with Sonic images galore. There is also an image of Tails which seems to be from the western release? 

You know that terrible US Sonic series? I can tell that design from anywhere. Okay to be honest the show was quite funny, and has an amazing cast. But it was nothing how SEGA had imagined Sonic.
